BACKGROUND
Ian has over 30 years experience in the valuation of urban real estate in the Auckland region. Ian initially gained registration in his home town Wellington and later entered private practice in Auckland in 1990, followed by three years with Auckland City Council’s valuation division before joining Roberston Young Telfer in 1994 prior to its expansion into the larger TelferYoung group.
During that time Ian has been involved in valuations a wide range wide experience in the valuation of most types of urban real estate, including all facets of commercial, industrial and residential property valuations. This includes rental reviews, mortgage valuations, market valuations, financial reporting valuations and insurance assessments. He has undertaken wide ranging valuation work for the major Auckland Local Authorities, including financial reporting work, leasehold land and occupational rental valuations, acquisition and disposal valuations, including portfolio groupings and covering residential, industrial and commercial property classes.
SPECIALISATION
Ian has had extensive experience in Public Works Act valuations including acquisitions for roading projects, infrastructure and new public open space recreational parks and reserves, along with valuations of surplus land for disposal. He has previous and ongoing involvement in compensation valuation work for the Central Rail Link project including surface and sub-terranean land interests.
Ian has specialist experience in valuing reserve and open space zoned land including valuations for ground lease rentals and compensation. He has had considerable experience in undertaking rental valuation for various leasehold sites and occupational premises in the Auckland Airport precinct.
He also has experience in various dispute resolution forums as an expert witness in the High Court, the Land Valuation Tribunal, and as an arbitrator and as expert advisor in mediations.

PERSONAL INTERESTS
Ian’s leisure pursuits include gardening/DIY, reading, drinking a good coffee and sipping on some wine. He follows sports of interest and still enjoys playing tennis and occasional soccer games. He enjoys exploring New Zealand’s scenic highlights and bush and has been expanding his travel horizons with more regular overseas trips with his wife Judi.
